چکیده

Routing protocols are important to exchange routing information between neighboring routers. Such information is used to update routing tables and to share information about status of the network so that traffics to appropriate destinations will be fast and efficient. Different types of routing protocols are in widespread use across the Internet. Apart from determining optimal routing paths and carrying traffics through the networks, these routing protocols should have additional functionalities to support network policies, traffic engineering and security. In this paper we discuss the use of one such routing protocol, the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) which is the industry standard. We also present an algorithm in which each Autonomous System (AS) decides how to forward its traffic satisfying end-to-endQoS for its users and services. Our proposed algorithm is dynamic in that network status and route advertisements, which change with time and based on traffic loads in the network, are monitored and taken as input to the final decision on traffic forwarding between ASs.

A Scalable Architecture Supporting QoS Guarantees Using Traffic Engineering and Policy Based Routing in the Internet

The study of Quality of Service (QoS) has become of great importance since the Internet is used to support a wide variety of new services and applications with its legacy structure. Current Internet architecture is based on the Best Effort (BE) model, which attempts to deliver all traffic as soon as possible within the limits of its abilities, but without any guarantee about throughput, delay, ...

QoS Extension to BGP

To enable the end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees in the Internet, based on the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), inter-domain QoS advertising and routing are important. However, little research has been done in this area so far. Two major challenges, scalability and heterogeneity, make the QoS extension to BGP difficult. Two existing approaches, the Link Capacity Routing (LCR) and the ...

Inter-Domain QoS Routing: Optimal and Practical Study

This paper addresses the problem of inter-domain QoS routing with Service Level Agreements (SLA) for data transport between peering domains, using virtual-trunk type aggregates. The problem is formally stated and formulated in Integer Linear Programming. As a practical solution, we define the QoS INFO extension to the BGP routing protocol, conveying three different QoS metrics (light load delay...

Virtual-Trunk-Based Inter-Domain QoS Routing

This paper addresses the problem of interdomain QoS routing with Service Level Agreements (SLA) for data transport between peering domains, using virtual-trunk type aggregates. The problem is formally stated and formulated in Integer Linear Programming. We consider the comparison of this optimal approach with a proposed solution for inter-domain QoS to be part of the framework for end-to-end Qo...

Server-Based Inter-Domain QoS Routing: Cost Evaluation and Decision Enforcement

Inter-Domain QoS routing (route selection from multiple available routes traversing multiple domains) simply on the basis of hop count does neither ensure optimal resource utilization nor SLA fulfillment. Although some schemes (BGP-4) provide policy based routing, they are not suitable in many cases, for example, in case of resource reservation. In this paper, we argue that these schemes alone ...
